The delegation of the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) met with the High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet Jeria at the UN Office in Geneva.

At the meeting, the sides discussed the issues related to freedom of expression. They also spoke about the role of civil society in human rights protection, the rights of the aged as well as the rights of children.

IEPF President met with Executive Director of The Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue Idriss Jazairy, briefed on the activities of the IEPF and discussed future cooperation opportunities.

Representatives of the IEPF participated in the presentation of the book "Environmental diplomacy" by Eloi Lauren, the head of Benin's permanent mission to the UN. IEPF President held discussions with Permanent Representatives of Mali and Benin in the United Nations. It was noted that, as a result of the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia, the environment and cultural-civilization in Karabakh were destroyed.

IEPF President U. Mirzayev met with representatives of the Iranian Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism. During the meeting, IEPF President spoke about the Khojaly tragedy committed by Armenian Armed Forces as well as about some terrorist acts committed during the occupation of Karabakh. He called civil society institutions to work together against the acts of occupation.

The IEPF delegation participated in a number of events within the framework of the 40th Session of the UN Human Rights Council and joined the discussions. Anastasia Lavrina, Assistant to the President of International Eurasia Press Fund, was one of the key speakers at the event dedicated to the protection of human rights defenders.

In her speech, she pointed out that sometimes, inadequate and inaccurate information being spread by human rights defenders that leads to the formation of a wrong opinion about the country. She also spoke about the necessity to protect human rights defenders.

The IEPF delegation met with Osman El-Hajje, a member of the Working Group on the Special Rights of the Human Rights Council. During the meeting, a documentary film dedicated to the collapsed infrastructure and ecological disaster on the occupied Azerbaijani territories and the frontline area was demonstrated.

Umud Mirzayev met with UN Human Rights officer Zeki Otman, Adviser to the Department of Humanitarian Cooperation and Human Rights of the Russian Foreign Ministry Yevgeni Ustinov, member of the Board of ARAMEA Foundation in London Bassam Aloni, former Yemeni in United Nation Ambassador Ibrahim Al-Addofi, Head of the Global Philanthropy Network in Belgium, Faisol Amrullah, President of the International Academy of Law, Kamel Laifi, Combine Villages - Representatives of United Nations Village Organization Kossi Essiomle and other representation. He invited them to cooperate to protect more than one million refugees and internally displaced persons appeared as a result of the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by neighboring Armenia.

IEPF called them for the creation of a joint platform within the framework of the "Water for Peace and Security" event.

It should be noted, that within the framework of the 40th Regular Session of the Human Rights Council, the IEPF jointly with the Global Institute for Water, Environment and Health holds an event called "Water for Peace and Security" at the UN Office in Geneva on March 7.
