The IEPF President comments on the provocation of "Google Maps"
The President of the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) Umud Mirzayev condemned the provocation of Google Maps, a web mapping service developed by the Google Tech Company, for indicating the names of the internationally recognized administrative regions of Azerbaijan, which are currently under occupation of Armenia, in Armenian language.
Unfortunately, it is not the first time that the company disrespected the protection of geographic names of the Republic of Azerbaijan and violated ISO-3166 standards.
The IEPF President expressed his concerns over the violation of the international conventions by Google Maps.
According to Umud Mirzayev, the Armenian lobby always tries to change the names of historical regions of Azerbaijan. These kinds of destructive actions prevent peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
He added that by changing the map and distorting the facts, the Armenian side aggravates the current situation.
“Azerbaijan tries to resolve the conflict peacefully, but Armenian lobby uses all its means including changing the geographical names of the occupied territories of Azerbaijan in digital space to prevent peaceful resolution of the conflict," he concluded.
