On October 14, an event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the International Eurasia Press Fund was held at the "Hilton" hotel.
Guido Ambrosso, acting UN resident coordinator, spoke at the event. Congratulating IEPF on its anniversary, he said:
"Today, I am very happy to speak on behalf of the UN Resident Coordinator Ms.Vladanka Andreeva at the event held on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the International Eurasia Press Fund.
I sincerely congratulate Mr. Umud Mirzayev and his team for their professional work over the past 30 years in the areas of community development, media and civil society, mine action, as well as solving the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced persons.
With the General Consultative status of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), IEPF actively cooperates with UN agencies in Azerbaijan and participates in international conferences called by the UN.
The UN representative also spoke about IEPF's projects. He noted that IEPF is currently cooperating with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in the implementation of the Mine Awareness project.
"The project provides special Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) training for 200 IDP community activists and government employees, including health, education and other public service officials, enabling them to organize awareness sessions and information dissemination within IDP communities in Azerbaijan. These measures are aimed at up to 25,000 internally displaced persons living in Agjabedi, Agdam, Tartar and Goranboy districts.
Continuing his speech, the G.Ambrosso said that IEPF has also implemented a number of projects with the support of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF).
"UNICEF's explosive ordnance risk education program in partnership with IEPF has contributed to the education of children, families and communities through various activities. The Fund also implements a relevant program in six conflict-affected regions covering 50 communities. More than 50,000 local people, including more than 12,000 children, were educated about the risk of explosive ordnance through community participation.
Cooperation with IEPF is one of the best examples of UN partnership with local civil society organizations. Since its inception in 1945, the United Nations has been actively involved with NGOs and recognizes the importance of promoting the ideals of the organization.
Dear Mr. Mirzayev, on behalf of the UN Country Group in Azerbaijan, I would like to congratulate you and your team on the 30th anniversary of your organization. We look forward to our future partnership on the progress of the 2030 Agenda in Azerbaijan."
