Heidi Kuhn, who is currently travelling Azerbaijan at the invitation of the International Eurasia Press Fund and with the support of ANAMA, visited the IEPF's head office. The meeting was attended by President of the organisation Umud Mirzayev, Chairman of the Supervisory Board Akif Musayev, Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) Samir Poladov and IEPF staff.
During the meeting, Umud Mirzayev informed Heidi Kuhn about the history of the IEPF. He talked about the projects that have been implemented over the past 30 years and many other activities that have been committed by the IEPF so far. During discussions, he also spoke about the future prospects of official cooperation with the "Roots of Peace" organisation in solving the problem of landmines in Azerbaijan.
Furthermore, Samir Poladov, Deputy Chairman of ANAMA, spoke about the successful partnership of his organisation with the IEPF. He said that the mine problem is currently a special priority for the Azerbaijani state and many significant works are being carried out in this direction.
During the conversation, Heidi Kuhn, who shared her initial impressions, thanked for the warm welcome and stressed that she was looking forward to discovering Azerbaijan. They also discussed plans to clear mine-contaminated areas in Azerbaijan as well as to plant vineyards in the demined areas.
During the visit, it was decided to sign a memorandum between the Roots of Peace and the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF). The aim is to bring the mine problem in Azerbaijan to the attention of the international community and to support the transformation of mine-contaminated areas into arable land.
It should be noted that Heidi Kuhn's visit in Azerbaijan has been planned until March 5. During the visit, she will be meeting with government officials, international organisations, mine victims, media and civil society representatives.
