Roots of Peace Representatives Visit the International Eurasia Press Fund
Adriana Aristizabal, a Colombian journalist, former war correspondent and member of the Board of Directors of Roots of Peace, who is visiting Baku as part of the 4th International Humanitarian Demining Conference, together with Nelsi Raquel Munar Charry, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Colombia to Azerbaijan, visited the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) on September 3.
During the visit, white roses regarded as a symbol of peace were presented to IEPF staff as part of the Roots of Peace campaign, once again highlighting the humanitarian mission they carry out. It should be noted that IEPF has been an active member of this international campaign for many years and cooperates with a number of prominent international organizations within the framework of the initiative.
As previously reported, on March 20 of this year, a ceremonial planting of a white rose, a symbol of peace, was also held at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Washington, D.C., on the occasion of Novruz. The ceremony was attended by Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to the United States Khazar Ibrahim, Heidi Kühn, Founder of Roots of Peace and recipient of the 2023 World Food Prize, as well as agricultural attachés accredited in Washington.
It should also be noted that IEPF has participated in the Roots of Peace campaign for many years. A number of international organizations from different countries have joined the initiative and are working to promote peace, restore mine-affected areas, and support local communities in returning to normal life.
The Symbolic Meaning of the White Rose
The white rose is more than just a flower; it is a powerful symbol carrying profound meaning. The thorns of the rose symbolize the challenges of life — including the conflicts, hardships and obstacles faced by communities in different parts of the world.
At the same time, the purity and fragrance represented by the rose serve as a reminder that renewal can emerge from hardship; that fertile gardens can once again flourish on lands scarred by mines and war; and that peace can emerge from division.
By cultivating the land with care and compassion, strong foundations can be laid for peace to flourish for generations to come.
