Heidi Kuhn, head of the organization, gave an opening speech at the anniversary event “Roots of Peace – from Mines to vineyards, “a woman's mission to protect the world” at the Yountville Community Center.
"This is an important moment for Roots of Peace as we work to address the challenges of landmine-prone, hard-working farmers around the world," said Heidi Kühn.
Umud Mirzayev, who was among the honored guests of the event, first congratulated "Roots of Peace", which has been working for peace for 25 years on behalf of IEPF, on its anniversary.
"Heidi Kuhn's initiative to destroy mines and turn minefields into vineyards and orchards around the world has affected the lives of millions of people. The idea of "Mines to Vines", which was started in order to sow seeds of peace in war zones, is being successfully implemented in different countries of the world today, said Umud Mirzayev.
U. Mirzayev also spoke about Heidi Kuhn's visit to Azerbaijan and the importance of the "Mines to Vines" project, which will be implemented in Karabakh:
"In March of this year, the seeds of "Roots of Peace" were sown in Azerbaijan. On the eve of International Women's Day, Heidi Kühn visited the mined Karabakh - Azerbaijan. I would like to note that we signed a memorandum of cooperation with "Roots of Peace" in Baku. We promised that we will do our best to turn Karabakh into a flourishing garden again. We are already starting the implementation of the "Mines to Vines" initiative in Karabakh. We will see the roots of peace sprouting in another war-torn country."
Later, Umud Mirzayev presented Heidi Kuhn's book "Breaking Ground" translated and published into Azerbaijani by IEPF and a congratulatory plaque on the 25th anniversary to the author.
He also delivered the congratulatory letter of Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Board of Minesweeping Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA), to Mrs. Kuhn. A video dedicated to Heidi Kuhn's visit to Baku was also shown at the event.
