An Independent Trade Union has been established within the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF), marking a significant milestone in the NGO sector.
The decision to form the union was reached during a pivotal meeting convened at the IEPF headquarters. The meeting witnessed the participation of key figures including IEPF President Umud Mirzayev, esteemed members of the Board of Trustees such as Rashad Majid, Ray Karimoglu, Vagif Bahmanli, Fuad Abbasov, as well as notable personalities like Chairman of the Citizens' Labor Rights League Sahib Mammadov, human rights defender Akif Ali, and ANAMA operational manager Shahin Allahverdiyev, among others.
Through a transparent process of open voting, the Independent Trade Union of IEPF board of directors was democratically elected, and a new inspection commission was appointed. Notably, veteran journalist and writer Akif Ali emerged as the chairman of the newly formed Independent Trade Union of IEPF, following a resounding mandate from the participants.
Expressing gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him, Akif Ali pledged to uphold the trust placed in him and strive for the betterment of the organization and its members. His election was met with warm congratulations and well wishes from all present, reaffirming the collective commitment to the cause.
In his closing remarks, Umud Mirzayev congratulated the elected members and expressed confidence in their leadership under the guidance of Akif Ali.
This landmark initiative underscores IEPF's pioneering role in fostering democratic practices within Azerbaijan's civil society, setting a precedent for non-governmental organizations across the nation.
