On July 11, two training sessions were held at the headquarters of the International Eurasia Press Fund (BAMF) on the topics “The Role of Civil Society Organizations in UN Human Rights Treaty Bodies and the Universal Periodic Review Procedures” and “Functions of the Treaty Bodies (Committees) under Human Rights Conventions.” The trainings were conducted by human rights trainer-expert Mr. Sahib Mammadov.

These sessions were organized within the framework of the project “Support for Enhancing the Representation of Azerbaijani NGOs at the UN,” implemented by IEPF with the support of the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan. A total of 24 NGO representatives participated in the training.

During the sessions, participants were informed about the UN treaty bodies, their six core functions, complaint and accountability procedures, and the role of NGOs in these mechanisms. Later, open discussions were held among the participants regarding the topics covered.

It should be noted that the main objective of the project is to strengthen the international representation of Azerbaijani NGOs, support them in obtaining consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), familiarize them with the functioning of the UN treaty and charter-based mechanisms, and assist them in preparing various types of international reports. At the end of the project, participants who successfully complete the training will receive certificates, and support will be provided to the most active organizations in gaining membership in ECOSOC.
