On July 18, the first training session on the representation of local NGOs at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) was held at the office of the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF). The event was organized within the framework of the project “Support for Enhancing the Representation Capabilities of Azerbaijani NGOs at the UN,” implemented by IEPF with the support of the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan. A total of 21 NGO representatives participated in the training.

The first session featured a presentation by international expert and trainer Nick Nvolisa, who has extensive experience in cooperation with the UN and its bodies. He delivered a lecture on the topic “ECOSOC and Its Working Principles,” where he discussed representation opportunities within ECOSOC, the operational scope for NGOs, and the types of consultative status available. The session concluded with a Q&A segment.

Upon completion of the training sessions, certificates will be awarded to outstanding participants, and support will be provided to the most active organizations to facilitate their membership in ECOSOC.

It should be noted that within the framework of the project, the initial six-session training module on the UN’s treaty and charter-based mechanisms was previously conducted by human rights expert and trainer Sahib Mammadov.
