The final event of the project “Supporting the Enhancement of Azerbaijani NGOs’ Representation Opportunities at the United Nations”, implemented by the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) with the support of the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has been held.

According to EDnews, during the event information was presented on the UN “Guide to Consultative Status”, which was newly translated and prepared by IEPF within the framework of the project, and the guide was distributed to participating organizations. The brochure, which explains how NGOs can become members of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), also includes a foreword by Wook-Jin Chang, Head of the UN NGO Branch, addressed to Azerbaijani NGOs.

At the end of the event, NGO representatives who successfully completed the training sessions were awarded certificates.

It should be noted that the project featured 12 training sessions in two key areas — learning about UN treaty and charter-based mechanisms, and the process of obtaining consultative status with ECOSOC. More than 30 representatives from 25 different NGOs took part in the program.

Within the framework of the project, which was carried out in partnership with the National NGO Forum of Azerbaijan, IEPF — holding the highest level of ECOSOC consultative status — will continue to provide regular support to selected NGOs throughout the application process to obtain this status.
